What do you need?

Bicycles

Bring your own bike – do make sure it is in good working order and we strongly recommend  you get it serviced before you come for your holiday, your local bike shop will be able shop will be able to help but don’t leave it to the last minute as they can get very busy.

Also make sure you have suitable road tyres fitted – the big chunky off-road tyres that maybe fitted to your mountain bike will be slow and hard work on the routes we take.

Hire bikes from us - We have access to a range of bikes and aim to select the right bike for you so we will need to know your height and bike preferences. Bike hire starts from around £10/day (£50/week) and includes a carrier rack & panniers, puncture repair kit, tools & pump - the bikes are in excellent condition and are ready to go.

Headgear

Bicycle helmets, whilst we do recommend you wear a helmet for safety, it is not a requirement in <country-regionw:ston><placew:ston>France.  Many people wear some form of head cover in the summer as the sun can be very strong.

Tools etc

Everyone needs to carry a spare, new inner tube and a puncture repair outfit. Your bike will have a main spanner or allen keys for basic adjustments and recommend you bring this with you.

Panniers and bags

A set of panniers is the easiest way to carry stuff on your bike (they fit on to a bike carrier rack) or you can fit a saddlebag, and/or you can have a small carrier that fits onto your handlebars. Avoid carrying a rucksack on your back as it can get very hot and uncomfortable.

Clothing

Padded cycling shorts are recommended! If you don’t want to be seen in lycra there is a good choice of cycling shorts (of various lengths) which look like fairly normal gear but have removable padded shorts inside.

Lightweight tops with layers for the cooler times, lightweight waterproof jacket and trousers can double as ‘wind-stoppers’ when its cooler. A longer sleeved cool shirt is useful when the sun is strong to help avoid sunburn.

Gloves can help to eliminate road vibration on the longer rides and the summer short fingered padded gloves are ideal.

There are lots of cycling gear websites to look at, try www.wiggle.co.uk

Water bottles

A water bottle holder fitted to your bike is the easiest way to carry a minimum of one litre of water.

Cycle-Camping

Lightweight is the key word here for all the camping gear, and you probably need to take a lot less stuff than you think you do. We have a checklist of essentials - if you'd like a copy,  contact us.

Plus

  • Take plenty of suntan lotion.
  • Carry some snacks to help keep your energy levels going.

Bike repairs

We have a small workshop to fix most bike mechanical problems but we only stock a limited range of replacement parts which means some bike repairs may take several days to fix if we have to order in the parts.
